Help Us Pass the Unborn Child Dignity Act!
Great news! Tomorrow, Senate Bill 27, the Unborn Child Dignity Act has its last hearing in the Civil Justice Committee. Ohio Right to Life will be testifying on behalf of the bill, which seeks to promote the dignity of the unborn through proper burial while strengthening Ohio’s laws on informed consent.
Ohio Right to Life has been working on S.B. 27 since 2015, when we first introduced it with former Ohio Senator Joe Uecker. This bill came about largely due to then Attorney General Mike DeWine’s investigation of Planned Parenthood’s treatment and disposal of unborn babies’ aborted remains. That investigation revealed that aborted remains from two Planned Parenthood facilities were found in Kentucky medical waste landfills. Due to the weak language in Ohio law, which only states that the remains are to be disposed of “humanely,” with no definition of what that means, Planned Parenthood could not be prosecuted.
The Unborn Child Dignity Act will end this calloused treatment of tiny babies’ bodies. If enacted, S.B. 27 will require the Ohio Department of Health to establish rules for the proper disposal of aborted unborn babies and define “humane disposal” as earthly burial or cremation. Deceased unborn infants deserve the same respect as other human beings. Passing this legislation will bring us one step closer to making that a reality.
So that is why we’re emailing you today- Ohio Right to Life needs your help! Would you be willing to show your support for this vital legislation by calling the members of the Civil Justice Committee and urging them to vote yes on S.B. 27?
