COLUMBUS, Ohio–Today, Ohio Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) provided sponsor testimony on legislation to de-fund Planned Parenthood before the Senate Government Oversight and Reform Committee. Carrying 15 co-sponsors, Senate Bill 214 responds to the summer’s undercover video scandal that shows Planned Parenthood officials allegedly selling aborted baby body parts.
“Whether you call yourself pro-life or pro-choice, I think most people have an issue with taxpayer dollars going to an organization that seeks to profit off of the harvest of body parts from the unborn,” said Senate President Keith Faber. “After viewing these videos, it was sickening for me to know that this organization, which is willing to ruthlessly dismember an unborn child in order to obtain a profit, is also partially funded by the taxpayers of the State of Ohio.”
Proponent testimonies were provided by Stephanie Ranade Krider, executive director of Ohio Right to Life; Anna Higgins, associate scholar at the Charlotte Lozier Institute; Elizabeth Vandergriff of Greater Cincinnati Young Adults for Life; and Paul Coudron, executive director of Dayton Right to Life.
“As Planned Parenthood officials discuss how to ‘crush’ a child’s body to properly preserve her brains and heart for trading purposes, our human decency demands that we stop the crushing,” said Stephanie Ranade Krider. “It is the public policy of the state of Ohio to prefer childbirth over abortion. Ohio Right to Life asks that the State of Ohio honor this policy and leave the abortion business once and for all.”
