COLUMBUS, Ohio– Fifty-eight percent of Americans want either all or almost all abortions illegal in the United States, according to Gallup’s annual Values and Beliefs poll conducted May 2 -7. These national polling results arrive on the heels of a Gallup Poll conducted earlier this year. That poll showed that 80 percent of Americans reject third trimester abortion and 64 percent reject second trimester abortion.
“America has spoken. Clearly, the abortion ‘debate’ no longer exists in America. These polling numbers show that a strong majority of Americans want almost all abortions illegal,” said President of Ohio Right to Life Mike Gonidakis. “Planned Parenthood and their allies consistently lie, stating that Americans desire abortion on demand and unlimited access to abortion. This simply is not accurate. The numbers speak for themselves: Americans want to end abortion,” said Gonidakis.
In addition, Gallup polling results demonstrate that a strong majority of American women oppose abortion and believe it should be an illegal practice in the United States. This comes after a year-long “War on Women” campaign by Planned Parenthood and their allies suggesting that all women in America want unlimited access to abortion and oppose any restrictions to abortion on demand.
“It is refreshing to see these polling results as Ohio Right to Life continues to fulfill its mission to protect and defend life knowing that the majority of Ohioans stand behind our efforts,” said Gonidakis.
Founded in 1967, Ohio Right to Life, with more than 45 local chapters, is Ohio’s oldest and largest grassroots pro-life organization. Recognized as the flagship of the pro-life movement in Ohio, ORTL works through legislation and education to promote and defend innocent human life from conception to natural death.
