Ohio Right to Life’s Statement on Today’s Sponsor Testimony for S.B. 123, the Human Life Protection Act

COLUMBUS, Ohio– Today, the Ohio Senate’s Health Committee will hear sponsor testimony on S.B. 123, the Human Life Protection Act. This legislation, sponsored by Senators Kristina Roegner and Sandra O’Brien and spearheaded by Ohio Right to Life, is a ban on abortions which would take effect when the United States Supreme Court overturns the condition precedent in Roe v. Wade. The legislation would apply felony penalties for abortionists while also providing immunity for women upon whom illegal abortions are performed. S.B. 123 would not effect birth control or after-miscarriage care. Twelve other states have enacted similar legislation and it is currently in effect in all of them.

“Ohio Right to Life is proud to champion this groundbreaking piece of pro-life legislation. With a pro-life majority now on the Supreme Court, we have a chance to undo the nearly 40 years of bad precedent created by Roe v. Wade and hand the decision of abortion back to the states. This bill will allow Ohio to take the ultimate step to protect the most vulnerable. S.B. 123 will help ensure that no baby is singled out for death by abortion and that no woman feels like she must choose between herself and her child. Let’s be clear: abortion victimizes women and it kills babies. We are ready for an Ohio where every woman in crisis is embraced with real support and where no baby’s life is considered disposable. Our time is now. We are going to end abortion.”
