Get Inspired on World Down Syndrome Day!
Today, March 21, marks World Down Syndrome Day, a day of global awareness dedicated to those with Down syndrome.
Today and all days, we want the world to know the value and dignity of every human person, no matter how many chromosomes a person has. In the same spirit, we wanted to share with you a poignant video on the life and thoughts of Peter Harteveld, a young man from Holland who has Down syndrome.
In the video, Peter describes his life, his family, his friends, and his feelings–including how he feels about discriminatory abortions. The video is incredibly moving, eye-opening and will likely leave you wanting to do more for the cause of human life.
As you know, Ohio Right to Life is hard at work advocating for the Down Syndrome Non-Discrimination Act, legislation to prohibit abortions from taking place for the sole reason of a Down syndrome diagnosis. Sadly, up to 90 percent of babies diagnosed with Down syndrome are aborted.
As our own part of building awareness and advocacy for the Down syndrome community, Ohio Right to Life is devoting Legislative Day 2016 to the Down Syndrome Non-Discrimination Act.
As we’ve told you, the bill is now halfway through the Ohio House, and we need your voices to help us get it across the finish line.
If you feel compelled to do one thing after watching Peter’s video above, we ask you to join us on Tuesday, April 12 to advocate for Ohio’s Down Syndrome Non-Discrimination Act. Discriminatory abortions are heartbreaking, unjust and destructive to society. But you have the opportunity to do something about it–right there in Ohio!
